Is Victor Rocha still in the business of fixing ABS Control Units? 850 1996

Hello All,

I am a “Happy Customer” of Victor Rocha’s. In fact, thanks to this website, I heard about him years ago. Over the course of many years (almost 10 years) I have had him successfully fix 3 ABS Control Units for me when the “ABS” and “TRACS” lights came on. I have two 1996 850 wagons and a 1999 V70 XC, which all suffered from failed ABS Control Units (always the same symptoms).

Recently a ABS Control Unit I had him fix back in 2012 failed again when the “ABS” and “TRACS” lights came on. My local mechanic attached a scanner to my Volvo when the lights came on and confirmed the problem was due to the ABS Control Unit.

I have called, written and e-mailed to Victor to make arrangements to send the ABS Control Unit to him again for repair or if necessary, replacement, but I haven’t heard back from him. Since it has been so long since I have had any need to contact him, I thought perhaps he retired or discontinued his repair service. His website is still up. The contact information I have for him is:

vicrocha@earthlink.net
www.RochaTek.com
Mr. Victor Rocha
2341 Almeza Avenue
Rowland Heights, CA. 91748
Tel. # 562-652-3562

I have called, e-mailed and written to him without success. All I want to do is make arrangements to send my ABS Control Unit to him to be repaired or if necessary, replace. Does anyone know if Victor is still in business? Is there any other way to contact him besides the contact information I have provided above?

Thanks to all who respond. Victor is a terrific resource and I hope he is still in business.

Hugh

Klaus,

Thank you for reaching out to Victor. The telephone number and e-mail address listed by Victor, are the same that I used repeatedly to contact him without success. I even mailed a letter to him using the last address I had from the last time I sent an ABS Control Unit to be repaired by him. Still no call back. I have also left several messages on the answering machine on the telephone number provided. Again, I never received a call back.

However, “Hope springs eternal”. So I will try reaching out to Victor again using the contact information you have provided.

Klaus, let me express a “blanket thanks” to you and all the other members of this website who responded to my query.

Hugh

FYI: I think he's still in the ABS repair business but only at part time imo.
The first time I've contacted him was in august 2016, by email. No response. I've waited a couple of weeks approx and I've recontacted him again but via an other email address (just in case) and he replied immediately. I shipped my unit and it came back 10 days later totally fixed. The unit is still working perfectly up to now.

Norm,

Thank you. I had 3 ABS control units fixed by Victor. The last time I contacted him (via e-mail) was in 2012. So I am encouraged that you were able to contact him via e-mail 4 years after my last contact. Do you mind sharing the e-mail address you used in which Victor responded immediately?

Thanks.

Hugh

I used Midwest ABS about two years ago. Very good, very reasonable, very good communication. I had to pay a little extra because my unit was fried from engine heat and nothing good left to recycle. Would recommend using them.

Lilhelphere,

Thank you for this lead. I went to the company’s website and was impressed by what I saw, and the fees charged were certainly reasonable. Thank you again for sharing this lead. I don’t know if I would have found it on my own.

Hugh

Agree with the Satisfied Customer rating of Midwest. Price was fair, shipping was extremely fast and the unit works perfectly. 1996 855R

Suppo176,

Thank you for your response. Though I hope I can still contact Victor, if I am unsuccessful, I have an alternative resource to contact. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I've got no information on Mr. Rocha.

But have you considered that it may be the brake pedal position switch that is activating your ABS and TRACS light? I had that problem with my '95 and found an article that described failing solder joints inside the switch as the problem.
I simply "re-flowed" the solder joints in the switch and the ABS / TRACS lights illuminating issue did not return.

Might be something to try before spending $ to have the ABS unit repaired.

I also know a guy (close to you) that will be parting out a '95 850T soon... in case you need anything else.

Tom,

Thanks. I will show you response to my private mechanic to see if he can follow your suggestion. I hope you are right.

Hugh
