cylinder numbering

This week I'll be changing some of the ignition coils on a 2004 S80 non-turbo. I've not done much work on "white block" motors. Are the cylinders numbered from the "front" of the motor?--or from the flywheel? Don't laugh at the question if you haven't come across this. Some motors are numbered from the flywheel (as in the 260 and 760 V6) and even the B18/20 motors time the camshaft from from #4 (closest to the flywheel). thanks in advance. -- Dave

Hmmm. Not a S80 expert.

But my '95 854T whiteblock (2.3L Turbo 5-cyl) has #1 at the "front" of the engine - not the flywheel end.
The '01 S40 (1.9L Turbo 4-cyl) whiteblock is the same.

I guess this really doesn't answer your question about a S80. Oh well.

You wrote--"I guess this really doesn't answer your question about a S80. Oh well." -- I think you answered considering that the S80 motor is basically the same as the 4 cylinder in my '02 S40 and the 5 cylinder in my cousin's S60 but with 6 cylinders. thanks--Dave
