v70/ 850 manual feed back V70-XC70

After having had a number (6?) of different volvo's, I am now considering getting a v70 or 850 (1995-2000) with a manual transmission. It seems like it would be fun to drive around town, for local driving and short distances.

I've looked at a manual 850 and v70. I think they both have the 2.4L (non turbo) engines. I am looking for some feedback from the site members on the special maintenance/ wear out items for the manuals trans that are different from the turbo/ auto trans models.

Also, any personal experiences or recommendations concerning these cars. I can do basic repairs and maintenance on these vehicles.

Thanks a lot!

Much easier to maintain. Check the clutch! As it wears, the pedal will go closer to the floor before disengaging. Once you get the pedal to the floor and it is still in gear, you probably don't have a clutch plate left.

Some of the newer models, don't know year, the slave is inside the transmission.

On those with the slave outside, the pin can rust and clutch operation comes to an end. There is a "fix" for that, involves grinding down a new piston pin and threading the end. Not the end of the world.

There is plenty of power with the 2.4L, especially when you down shift or leave it in higher rpms.

I like the V70 window controls in the door, Vs the center console of the 850's. And the heated seats are better in the V70.

EDIT:
I saw this for $1,000!! Grab it:

No interior photos? Ask for some, along with the other side of the car. This is a base version, no heated seats. The seats may be cloth, ask for pics of the interior.

$2300 sounds high for no bells and whistles.

Junk yards have better radios.
