per Klaus C., to whom I owe many a malty beverage for saving me so much money, headlights for a 2004 C70 are a direct fit replacement for my 1998 S70, going new for $500 or so for the pair...what am I gaining with the purchase, other than new lenses that aren't clouded with age...???...halogen to HID???...

What you get with the 2004 C70 'twinkle' headlights is a better beam pattern, clearer lenses, and a better look. If you ever see a 2004 C70 in a junk yard, grab the lights! But I wouldn't pay $500 even for a pair. You can get replacement lenses for the 1998-2000 S/V70 for around $100.
