Cleared OBD11 Codes and Unable to start S80 1999

Thought battery was just low in charge so I placed overnight on trickle charger.

Still not able to get any car to turn over and have no dash lights when I turn on key. I am going to try starting it in neutral.

I just purchased the vehicle.

Cleared OBD11 Codes and Unable to start S80 1999

    Hi Mike,

First get a battery wire brush, and clean the battery posts and cable clamps
shine up the piggy back smaller heavy red wire clamp end at the positive terminal.
(That's the lead that sends +12V to the dash)
Verify that the battery cable ends are clean and tight and look at the crimps where the ends accept the wire, you don't want to see signs of corrosion and discoloration. That's the + and - wires
If you don't get idiot lights, and you have 12.6VDC at the battery (Measured at the clamps and not the battery) Then you may have a crapped out ignition switch
    or a relay. (in my 1995 850 the overload relay 15+ 2/31)

Get the Volvo wiring diagram for your model, And everything you need is there
to troubleshoot electrical. You can look for the same or similar arrangement
which should include the ignition switch and a relay. If you have the same overload relay as my 850, it's easy to jumper two relay socket pins and see if
that lights up your dash, to confirm that's the problem area.

I hope that you got service records with your new Volvo, to make sure that you
know when you need stuff like the Timing belt!

    Bill

I did swap battery with a new battery and still have issue. Because it was a former emergency vehicle it has a motorola radio unit, additional fuse panel, and emergency lights still in vehicle. Power was disconnect from positive terminal to motorola unit in trunk. May have an open circuit as result. What you say seems most logical. I want to disconnect this auxillery gear but I may need more help than I realize. I will let you know.

    A few things -

If the battery is truly dead a trickle charger will take 2-3 days to charge it. Are the battery cables tight? What is the battery voltage with no load ? How low does it drop when you try to start the car ? What were the codes ?

    Greg

Cables are tight. 12.65 volts reading with no load.

      P1633 No DTC

P0447 Evap Can Circuit open (gas cap?)

P0300 Random mult misfire detected. First time I checked it mentioned misfire detected No.4 cyl.

On board message center showed Msg involving massive ABS failure and to pull over immediately. Windshield wipers went crazy thought it was nervousness of spouse so I drove it home. Exclamation point in red triangle, eng light, abs , trac lights on as well as another ! in triangle.

When you say it 'won't turn over' do you mean that it does not crank or it does not run ?

No lights,no guages, nothing happens when I try to turn the ignition. The starter does not engage--does not turn over. I have no burnt fuses and I swapped out relays under hood in fuse panel No apparent fuse problem in dash driver's side panel. I checked for good connection at starter. I do not seem to have a power reading off starter terminal with volt meter. Has to be something really stupid.

If you get no lights in the dash, then think kaput ignition switch
Did you service the battery posts and clamps as explained before?

Get the wiring diagram and find out where you lose power. Your meter will
            help.

I saw a youtube video that mentioned checking the ecm panel left connections under the glovebox area. Have not pulled panel to check yet.
