New 2000 xc70 issues V70-XC70 2000

Hello All,

Bought a 2000 xc70 SE, 130k miles. I've put 1,300 n=miles on it with no trouble.
this week I've had a few issues pop up.

1. While driving the trip counter, odometer are dashed out blank, then the speedometer drops to 0 mph regardless of speed. As Soon as odometer, trip counter, and speedo wake up- I get brake light, abs light and flashing up arrow.

The next time I turn on my car its fine. The loss of power and high rpm just to keep up with traffic are worrisome. I am going to get a scanner this weekend. Till then please share your thoughts and experience.

Cheers,

GD

The ABS modules suffer from solder joint failures. They are ridiculously expensive from the dealer, but they can be opened and resoldered, or you can remove the module with an E-5 torx bit and send it out for repair:

Sounds like a failing ABS module. The speed signal goes through the ABS before it gets to the instrument cluster, TCU, or ECU.

The shift arrow on means that you are in 3rd gear and fail safe/drive home mode. Because the engine restart clears the codes, points to the ABS. Unfortunately, the generic scanners do not read ABS codes.
