Volvo S60 purchase question S60

A dealer on the coast of California is selling some new 2016 S60's with big discounts. $8k with the volvo loyalty bonus. They have about 40 miles on them and come with an extended warranty out seven years/ 100k miles. What concerns me is the cars show a build date in 2015 and put in service(punched)by the dealer in July 2016. I think Volvo corporation pays dealers to do that and show a sale, even though the dealer now owns the car. The concern I have is a car sitting that long and not driven. Sitting 18 months plus can't be good for any car. Any thoughts on my concern? Thanks.

That's 7 years from first registration date, so 6 more years left. Not to worry about 'sitting' for 6 months, these cars haven't been driven enough to develop acid that rots seals.

Sounds like a good deal.

Volvo S60 purchase question S60

Yes, it seemed a good financial deal. Actually they have had the car over 18 months now, but that sounds like it should be no problem. Still, I can't get over the fact China owns Volvo. Makes me feel uneasy about sending them my cash! Last new Volvo I purchased was an 850 in 1993 and it still going! If I got this one, and it lasts 24 years, the wife will be driving it to my funeral.

Volvo S60 purchase question S60

The S60 has gone out of favor due to the lack of room for 4. The last S60 I drove at a dealer was terrible: very noisy, rough suspension, cramped, poor visibility to the rear, and no bhp - comparing it to the XC60.

The Chinese like the S60, but added 6 inches so that there was more room in the rear seat. As for 'giving' the Chinese the money, part of that goes to the Swedes. I doubt there is any 'profit' left to a car that is already a year old. The dealer just wants to get rid of it.

If you really like the car, ask for $10K off list, keeping the CPO status.

Volvo S60 purchase question S60

Can I ask if anyone knows how much a S60 FWD T5 inscription might going for in northern, CA?

I am actually leaning towards the new S60 and am wondering when it might come out or what it might look like? The current S60 is small in my opinion.
Andrew

Thanks for the replies. I went back for a second drive and decided to pass. Mainly because the sport seats were not comfortable for me. Even the standard seat seem smaller and harder than Volvos of the past. Love the 850 seats! I guess after nearly forty years of owning multiple Volvos things change. Maybe I'll try an XC60. The hunt is the fun part of buying. Making your mind up, while living in the past, is the hard part.

Not uncommon for new cars to sit for awhile. Have to factor in shipping time, also they often sit at the dealer(s) for many months before they are sold. Think about how many leftover cars are sold at model year end closeouts!

IMOH - If it were a 10 or 20 year old car that had sat for a long time I'd be more concerned.
