Bread Clips V70-XC70

I installed the bread clips because my AC clutch was slipping. Now even with the AC off, there is a bit of rotation of the clutch and I can hear the plates slightly rubbing. Works fine when it is on.

Ideas?

Too close. I used a feeler gauge to get the before gap measurement. Also, the 'bread clips' can vary in thickness, making me use aluminum sheet metal to get the proper thickness.

Took the hard way and removed the clutch disk took out the last shim and now seems fine. See what happens when the temp goes up. It's in the 60's in New England right now.

I used mini zip ties last spring. They are holding.

Word of caution. My situation revealed that the clip method is temporary. I wrapped mine with wire in such a way that it worked for a good long time -maybe 2 years. But on a trip to Maine it started acting up, started to make a burning smell (was unsure "is that me?") and finally seized leaving us stranded. It was the only time in 16 years that my 850 left me stuck (minus a couple drained batteries) I recommend addressing the problem. In the grand scheme the repair, either clutch or new compressor is not that expensive...clip with care
