2006 S40 T5 - Loud Bang/Thump in rear suspension V50

Bought the car used and now working thru the many issues. It has a loud rear Thump/Bang when making turns and going over bumps.

This morning I started to pay attention to exactly when it happens. I can recreate it by making a 90 degree right turn and then when I straighten out the car at the end of the turn, I hear the Bang. It didn't matter which throttle position - from a turn from a full stop or a slow speed foot off the accelerator.

I checked left turns and sometimes it would happen. Sometimes over bumps. It always makes the noise when making a 90 degree right turn (at least this morning).

This suspension has the multiple bushings on the stabilizer bar. When I purchased the car, none of the bushings were there - I purchased aftermarket ones as they are no longer available from Volvo.

I'll be getting in there this weekend to replace the brakes and need to know what to look for.

I believe I have found the problem. The inner bushing of the lower control arm does not look right. I suspect it is shot. Now I have to figure out do I replace the entire control arm or just the bushing. I'm leaning towards replacing the lower arms on both sides.

I would replace the bushings rather than the entire control arm. I don't have a press, but some of the local Mom & Pop service stations have them and able to do it for $20 or so.

Keeping it running is better than buying new

Thanks for the advice on replacing the bushing. I have a press and have replaced bushings in other vehicles. I will give it a try and the worse that can happen is I have to confiscate my other Volvo from my teenagers for the time it takes to get new parts.
