2003 V70 A/C control valve? V70-XC70

A/C on 2003 V70 2.4t has died out. Checked the Freon and its good. When you turn it on, the compressor kicks on then off repeatedly within 5-7 seconds..

Taking a closer look at the system, I can't locate a filter/drier like traditional older A/C systems. I guess the car has a control valve of some sort that may be bad?? I don't really know... If so, where is it and how do I change it? Will it require the gas to be drained and refilled or is it plug and play?

BTW, there is a pressure switch. It is located on the receiver/drier with a 3 wire plug. The receiver/drier is located forward of the compressor and aft of the condenser.

      2003 V70 A/C control valve? V70-XC70

I was following this thread hoping to find out where the low side port on a 03 V70 is located. I was going to check the charge on my daughter's car last weekend and found the high side port on top, left of center (of course my hose would not connect without an adapter), but I have yet to locate the low side port. Am I overlooking the obvious?

Unless you want to hurt yourself, do NOT connect to the high side port.

Look below the coolant reservoir bottle. Not much working room with the timing belt cover. The cap is black plastic and has 6Mn written on it.

Thanks for the reply. I found the low side tap soon after I posted. I'm not sure how I would be hurt by hooking my gauge to the high side, unless you were assuming that I was going to try filling it on that side. At the moment I cannot attach the high side hose of my manifold set to that tap, in order to monitor high side pressure, without an adapter because the tap/port is recessed below the sheet metal cover atop the core support.

How did you check the gas pressure? Was the engine running and the compressor cycling while you were taking readings? What was the low and high pressure?

If you checked the pressure with the engine off, and the pressure was around 40psi, you are low. I have read static pressure between 60-300psi, depending on ambient temperatures. the high pressure side has a pop relief valve that releases pressure when it exceeds 500psi!

Checked with a set of gauges. I added a can of 134a to the point where it would release somewhere down below...I assume a relief valve. I didn't have the adapter for the high side since it sits so low on the car. The high side adapter I have has too much of a bend to get it on the high side port on this car...
