SlowTire Air Leakage V70-XC70

I noticed my wife's 2003 XC70 with 145K miles needs air added to the tires (3 out of 4) every couple of weeks. This set of tires has about 30K miles on them, but the tread is pretty good (not anywhere down near the wear indicators).

I have been told the air weepage is most likely the wheel rims where the tire seals and not the tires.

Any easy cure for this issue.... or try shooting a small amount of tire sealer in and see if that solves the problem?????

I actually had one set of rims that had some sort of sealer applied to the bead area that corroded the wheels so much that about 3/16th of the metal corroded away - the rims had to be junked!

Most likely it is corrosion on the rim caused by salt. The only good remedy is to have the tires pulled off and the rim polished. A good tire shop will also add a bit of goop (lack of a better word) to the rim. I had mine done last year at a minimal charge and the pressure is holding nicely.

I would not use a puncture sealant, just on principle and it does make a real mess on the inside of the tire and rim.

      Ugh, Fix-A-Flat, Slime or whatever.
I worked in a power equipment shop. Couldn't believe how many people use that stuff. It was awful to deal with when changing that flat tire that someone tried fixing with "goop". In our experience, it rarely worked.

The stuff was so irritating to work with that we'd charge double the labor when having to clean that stuff off a rim or tire.

Fix it right as KlausC said. Rim sealer is sometimes doable, but a tire removal and diagnosis is the right way to solve the problem - not "patch in a can".

Thanks for the responses.... I will have rim sealing areas polished .

Analyzing a tire pressure leak is one of the simpler DIY tasks. Get a spray bottle and fill with water and a few drops of liquid soap. Spray the entire wheel, careful not to wet the brake rotor. Look for expanding bubble where the air is leaking. If you can't see a bubble with the wheel mounted, take the wheel off and survey both sides.
