Key blade does not lock or unlock door - 2004 V70R V70-XC70 2004

The remote control locks and unlocks the door, but the key blade does not. I cannot feel a 'catch' with the key in the door lock turning either way.

Is this a common problem? How to diagnose and how to address t he issue?

Thanks.

A thought - perhaps the PO purchased a used (or even new) remote and did not think to keep the old blade.

BTW - I was in the fire service for 38 years and I often could use a coat hanger to pull a lock knob or push an electric lock button that others could not.

My trick - use two coat hangers to do the job. the first one gets all bent up getting through the door jamb and gaskets, the second one gets in along the first one and does the job.

You could buy the tool that FDs use now. It consists of an inflatable wedge to force the top corner of the door open and a length of tubing, like brake tubing that gets bent into a shape that can trip the lock button.

Also, a new (or used) lock and key blade do not have to include an expensive reprogram of your remote lock as they have nothing to do with each other

If there is no resistance when you turn the blade, someone, like a savvy used car mechanic, might have removed something from the lock or its mechanism.

Carefully look at the door around the latch and handle to see if there are signs of it being taken apart.

This could be a big problem for you if your remote control battery goes dead - or, if you ignore the tire pressure sensor as I did, after a day it disabled the remote control until I aired up the tire.

You probably need have the lock examined and repaired and then have a working blade made. After a lock repair, the blade might work.

      Thank you, James.

This may very well be the cause, and so in that case the first thing I will do is to packet a spare CR2032 coin battery in my wallet. The other equal concern, that would be a worse case, is that the car battery died. I guess my mitigation is learn making a slip knot in a string to open the door. ;-)

Although, I have also heard there is a procedure to `reset' the lock, something like "disconnect and reconnect the battery, put key in ignition II position, open the door and lock and unlock the door 3 times in a row from inside the car."

I have been searching the web to confirm that. Will update the board with further info.

It could be that either the door lock or ignition lock have been changed along the way. Does the key work for the passenger side or trunk lock? I would guess the door lock since the remote section works for the locks. The electrical system wouldn't know if the mechanical lock had been changed. - Dave

      Thanks, David.

This car has only one entry lock, located in the driver side front door. Neither the passenger side door nor the tailgate has one.

I am new to this model, and I bought it less than a month ago.
