Getting Airbag fault SRS-0211 (front bumper crash sensor) S60

The first indication of a problem was the console reporting:

"SRS AIRBAG SERVICE URGENT"

I hooked up my ODB-II scan tool, and was able to see this Volvo-specific fault:

"SRS - 0211 Front right front impact sensor. Communication faulty"

This is the only fault in the entire vehicle. IT cannot be cleared. The communication fault must be corrected.

Any ideas how to fix this? Where is the SRS computer located? It's a 2007 S60 T2.5.

they are easy to spot as there will be twin pairs of screw ends visible that hold them under the radiator core support adjacent to hood latch on either side. They mount with screws going in from underside of radiator core support.

Check the wiring and/or corroded plugs.

Klaus - good call. I found both wires cut right next to the sensor! It's a clean cut, like done with wire cutter. No corrosion. I know I can fix this, but how these wires got cut is a total mystery.

Is it necessary to disconect the battery while repairing these 2 open wires?

I would. Not that the airbags would go off, but to help get the warning light to turn off.

I was able to solder-splice the two wires (which are color-coded). Heat-shrink tubing necessary for insulation. [ If bare wires touch each other while the car is operating, the airbags will fire off!!! ]

I was surprised that the SRS 0211 diagnostic code did NOT clear after the repair.

However, when I took the vehicle in for 90K mile service, the error code was cleared. The service tech informed me that updated software was downloaded. He wasn't sure whether it was sufficient to hook the car up to Volvo maintenance system to clear the code.

I was unable to clear the P0211 code using my CarSoft scan tool. It makes sense that Volvo in their relentless pursuit of safety would not allow a consumer ODB-II tool to clear this airbag code, even after the wiring discontinuity is fixed. They want an authorized Volvo service center to do the repair and reset the code.

The root cause of the problem was rodent biting thru these wires. There were bite marks close to where the wires were severed.

Wire insulation must be tasty !

I have an Autel 802 reader that cleared my SRS code.
SRS and ABS capable reader was my minimum requirement,
after that I got a VIDA setup.

My CarSoft ODB-II Volvo-specific scanning tool was not able to clear the fault message.

However, when the car went to the Volvo dealer for scheduled maintenance, the SRS-211 code reset itself just being hooked up to the diagnostic computer. My soldered wire repairs worked after all!!

The dealer's service tech told me that Volvo doesn't encourage DIY repairs like I did on the airbag sensor wiring. For one thing, you have to be very careful not to trigger a false collision signal and fire off the airbags!

He said that the standard repair would be to rip out the sensor cable and replace it (which would not be easy knowing the cable routing and all the inaccessible cable tie-downs involved).
