Looking for both an indy shop and used car in So. Calif. Son has a 2001 XC70 and is also looking for a car for about $3000. Obviously it won't be a 'great', 'new' car, but we want one that is in fine running shape and requires little repair. Any ideas? Looking on Craigslist only brings up questionable vehicles. I prefer to use connections here for a reputable seller. His '01 needs some TLC, so I also need a shop contact- Venice Beach Ca.

    They used to be extremely honest. "Rule308" was a top mechanic there and an advocate of the Brickboard.

    You didn't mention what kind of car your son is looking for. Another wagon, sedan, AWD for skiing... Is the car parked on the street or in a lot. Full sun parking requires a light colored car.

    Obviously, your son is not able to mechanic himself. So why pick on an 'old' Volvo that can cost a lot in maintenance?
