2014 reliability S60

Hi Klaus, et. al.,

I'm picking up a 2014 S60 T5 off lease and am offered the a Volvo extended warranty for another 6 years (or another 80kmi which I don't expect to get near as I drive about 6500 miles a year) for $2200. What level of reliability do you find with the 2014 S60? I know repairs on these are very expensive. Do you think the extended warranty is worthwhile and a good idea?

Thanks to all.

R Stuart

The Brickboard was started in response to dealership service being too expensive for the 'average' person. Most of us do our own work because of the high labor rates and 'book' rates charged by garages. A 'Volvo' extended warranty means that you will be covered by a dealer. Read the fine print, all of the exclusions and any co-pays required.

If you were to put $2200 in a 'car account' that could only be used for non-wear item replacement, would that work for you? You couldn't use it for 'normal' maintenance like oil changes, brake replacements, etc.

The 5 cyl engine is proven to be reliable. The tranny is so much better. Most of the electronics ($$$) have been 'bug' free since 2005-6.

Thanks Klaus. You gave me a good prospective. I had an '02 V70 that I picked up in '05 from the dealer with the extended warranty to 100k (when I was driving 20,000 miles a year). At 95k the trans went and they replaced it. Unfortunately the electronics all started failing around 125k and it was eventually scrapped. I'm glad to hear the electronics and transmissions are better. I think I'll take your advice and bank the money.

The extended warranty excluded covering burnt valves, worn or carbon fouled piston rings, the correction of oil consumption, or any repairs for reduction in engine efficiency. Why would these be excluded?

      Thanks.

      R Stuart
