1998 V70 AWD rear shocks need replacing V70-XC70 1998

Both of my rear shocks are shot; one of them still leaking fluid, the other is dry. It's time. I am wondering if this is a DIY for someone with a jack and stands and basic skills/tools, or if it's an involved process better left to my Volvo independent guy, who is great. Also, I have seen some talk about "Nivomats," but I don't know how to determine whether that is what my car has (It was assembled in Belgium in 11/97). If they are Nivomats, can they be replaced by something else?

As always, thanks in advance!

Nivomats are Volvo's self leveling rear shocks. They will have a rubber gaiter like a classic dirt bike front fork instead of looking like a normal shock absorber. IPD has a description - https://www.ipdusa.com/techtips/10024/what-are-nivomat-shocks-and-does-my-volvo-have-them . They need to be replaced with new Nivomats or new rear springs and regular shocks.

If you have regular rear shocks they are pretty easy to replace.

Do you have a sense of how difficult the job might be it I opt to convert to the non-nivomat, using a kit like the one from IPD?

Nope, but I wouldn't expect it to be too hard. Getting the rear springs out without a lift will be the issue. I would guess you will need two jacks and an assortment of blocks or jackstands.
