2008 XC70 pushbutton start. When we insert the key fob in, sometimes it will not energize the ignition. after we take the fob out and in a couple times it finally allows the car to start. I don't think it's related, but we also just got a "collision warn service required" message, which in turn disabled the adaptive cruise control. any ideas??

Any 'required' message will disable cruise control, same for check engine light.

There are 'problems' with the early versions of the 'stick the remote in the dash'. What a bad idea that was. BMW and Volvo...

Check the battery cables for corrosion.

Get a scanner to check the codes.
