Lift and separate V70-XC70

Today I discovered a "doghouse" stabilizer in the back seat on the floor. I have seen these cross members installed in muscle cars to add structural integrity in the presence of obscene amounts of torque and power. . And in other cars just to hold them together due to some oversight in manufacturing. My v70 GLT is practically a T5 as a boatload of after market goodies were installed over the years. Somehow they must have either taken this stabilizer (?) out or never put it in. Does it need to be installed? I plan to do no more racing than any other Volvo owner save Paul Newman and David Letterman, ,I don't think Paul Newman drives much anymore. The car had a boost gauge mounted in the front left corner but it is now with other parts in the back. My Saab 900 had such a gauge in the instrument cluster and I don't remember it ever telling me anything I didn't know.

So, once I identify some of these other parts, I might have a garage sale. Two very solid brake or hub looking components I didn't really check out since it was getting dark. Also a collection of blue PVC looking fittings. I know the fellow from whom I bought the car changed out the turbo charger for one that he no doubt got from IPD. They must have been out of superchargers. This car is unreasonably fast. . .more so than my 940 turbo and it was rabbit fast.
I would appreciate any advice as I am decidedly not a gear head. I do love a good car however.
Thanks,
Barrelhouse

An associate has informed me that the basket full of parts and the "stabilizer" strut are all parts designed for rallying or whatever folks do with sports sedans and the like. Since the car has undergone considerable performance enhancement, it all makes sense. The component at the heart of this post attaches to the suspension "towers" on both sides of the engine bay for greater stability "on the track". I can't see it my self since all that is missing hare are some children and lot of soccer balls. I could see a sedan being beefed up like this.

It is probably time for Volvo to reprise the P1800 in some tasteful manner!
    Thanks!

Sounds like a strut mount stabilizer bar that goes between the two towers. This helps with body 'lean' in hard turns but does not affect comfort.

The blue PVC pieces are probably parts of the Intercooler ducting. Having a boost gauge on the A pillar is a fun fact to know gauge, but who really cares? You should be able to 'feel' the boost come on.

Sounds like you got a fun car!

    What is a doghouse stabilizer?

My '96 855R had a rear sway bar - it had different ends, one was at a right angle to the bar.

It made the suspension really stiff - it thumped when I drove over the shadow of a telephone pole!

Did you know that under severe, quick conering, the 850's rear wheels steered?

I don't know. .I made it up because I don't know the actual name of this top mounted cross member is. I am sure this component has a name. Perhaps something to contain the extra power created by the souping up. Someone here on the forum will know what all this is about.

Are you referring to the engine stabilizer link. It mounts at the top of the engine and connects to a bracket at the firewall---it is sort of "dog bone" shaped. -- Dave
