2006- XC70. I purchased this car from a dealer several years ago. I do not know if the battery was ever changed...it's a Volvo battery, I cannot find a 'date' on it. Although it has not given me any reason to feel that it is failing, it is...10 years old. Winter is coming here in NY...do not want to get stranded. Any sense in just changing it for preventive reasons? Or, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'.?

    The car will tell you when it is unhappy with the battery. I forget what the exact message is but on some cold day the voltage will be too low for its liking. I think the battery on our '04 was close to 10 years old when I replaced it. I'm still using it in my 240.

    You could test the battery before trading it in on a new one. Most batteries don't last 10 years any more, and very few people buy a battery from Volvo.

    If you get a new battery, get a sharpie and write the month and year on top.
