ABS Light (Again) 850 1997

According to my diary of repairs, the ABS computer was replaced in 2004 at 146K mi. The lights started coming back on, and I've been living with it for maybe two years now. A few things have been done to clean/check sensors. When I did the brakes recently, I forgot to check the gears behind the rotors. Should I start with step one of troubleshooting, go straight for suspecting the module? Have folks dealt with this twice like me? Anything new or tricks to know about? I am surprised to know the module was so long ago. Now at 251K
THANKS!!

Was the ABS unit 'replaced' or 'repaired'? If repaired, by whom? If replaced, I suggest sending it to Midwest-ABS.com as they are closer to you and also do quick turn around.

If it was repaired, contact the party that did the repair because they usually give a life time fix.

The ABS rings on the axles are pretty bullet proof. The sensors at each wheel can become dirty or the wiring fragile, but they seldom break on their own - they usually develop problems after someone works on something in the area.

BTW, I could only find history back to 2007 on the Brickboard.

Thanks, that sounds great. It was replaced. I'd need a real quick turn around, but I'll check it out.
History to '07? of me? I was a guest for a long time and also may have changed my name. But, I've written hand notes of all repairs, in the back of my Haynes guide since purchase in 2001. (long story on many levels)

I jumped on the, ready to ship, option for a few dollars more> Thanks Klaus!
Just a bit better to be able to pop a new one in without the turnover bc of where I am located.
I think the original replacement part was over $400 -one advantage to these aging vehicles(?)
Thanks!

If you don't have an E-5 torx wrench/socket, you can use a very small SAE 6 point socket to remove the 4 screws holding the ABS module in place. I suggest loosening the the hard to reach screws first. On reinstall, start the two easy screws first, finger tight, before starting and tightening the two hard to reach screws.

Be careful with the electrical connection, don't force it. The pins are quite fragile.

Well that's the next step, that I am unfamiliar with, but will find out about it. The torx socket is included with the shipped unit (!) and he wants it returned as part of the deal, with my return unit.
I think I had bought my own set set a while back for something else.
Great advice, thanks for the posts.
I'm still dreaming of what else I might get, even though this one is still running great, and a while back, a mechanic said "why would you want to get rid of this?" and " you spend less on your car than anyone"
I'm not quite reaching that point of so many small things breaking and annoyances that it's time, even though the dash jiggles quite a bit, I just did the radiator, and all the brakes in the summer, And the brake lines had to be done when the front flex hoses wouldn't come free. And the driver seat upholstery is starting to split again. There are probably a few more things...and sadly, a 1997 car is not worth much in resale at all.
THANKS!

Your a city dweller and I don't know if you have access to a pick&pull. If you do, you can get a used brake pedal switch to 'play' with.

I got a very nice 1998 seat from an S70, V70 works as well, that I put into my 1995. No hassles. I solved the seatbelt anchor problem by removing the outside bottom rail from the 1995 and putting it on the 1998 seat. The 1998 seat has a much better butt warmer!

Oddly, I think I might be the only 850 owner anywhere to have vinyl seats. I go to the auto upholstery place in Queens and they match just the one section. My next project is to contact discount tire direct because I hit a pothole and now have a small sidewall bubble (maybe my fifth in the last 7 years(?)
Thanks

You may want to look into resoldering the brake pedal position switch.
It fixed an intermittent ABS / TRACS light issue I was having on my '95 854T.
It was a simple, super cheap repair / fix.
