2001 V70 2.4 - thoughts? V70-XC70

Hello Folk,

First post. Recommended by a friend. I am a240 guy. Love the 164, but they're scarce. My 240 DL was just totaled and I am considering a 2001 V70 with 115K miles. I know little about these cars. What are the +'s and -'s? Should I run away? Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

164Me

If it is a 5 speed automatic run away from it! A manual tranny is fine. Many 2001 and 2002 Volvo automatics have had tranny problems. Sometimes this can be solved by a software update, sometimes not...

On the positive side, my Dad owned a 2001 V70 (saved him in a bad crash) and now a friend owns a 2001 V70. Neither had tranny troubles.

2004+ would be best. Non-AWD 2003's should be okay too. Early V70's with the 4 speed automatic are great too as are the later 850's.

Find out when the timing belt was changed (there should be a sticker on its cover) and when it is due - don't forget that there is a time limit also. Seven years I think.

We owned 3 850s, including an R model, and they required only normal maintenance. The 855R we had for 11 years.
