Tail Gate - Station Wagon V70-XC70 2001

I bought a 2001 Volvo V70-XC70 Station Wagon, great car.
Is there a way to open the tail gate from inside the car (for emergency exit).

Also, the locks are electric, if you came back to your car and the battery was drained, how would you open the tailgate to get to the battery (in back of station wagon) would like to know ahead of time.

Thanks for any help.

No emergency exit, don't want kids pulling on the door latch when the car is moving?

As for a dead battery, hmmm. You could supply 12V to the red battery post in the engine bay and then open the lift gate.

My 1998 V70 had a keyhole in the lift gate, but after a lot of years of never being used, the lock cylinder corroded to the point where the key wouldn't turn and a new lock would have been required.

I hate Volvo cost cutters, they opted for a single key hole in the driver's side door handle back in 1998. Fine, until the remote stops working - then put the child carrier on the ground or tell the children to not move while you go around the car and unlock the doors! Volvo USA ignored my emails...
