2005 V50 timing belt broke

Is the engine in a 2005 V50 an interference engine?

Thanks,
Jimo

The biggest problem people seem to have is in getting the cam timing set up right during reassembly. The cam sprockets are NOT keyed to the cam shafts so if you separate them you will likely need to purchase, rent, or fabricate an algnmenr aid to get it all lined up right. If the car has variable valve timing hubs it adds a bit more complexity. Now if you can perform the task without separating the cams/hubs/sprockets you will have a leg up on the task.

Sorry. Just about every engine with an OHC will find the valves in the wrong position if the belt breaks.

Thanks for the reply.
I found one for sale with a broken belt.
Is it hard to remove the head for repair?

Jimo

There will be at least 2 bent valves, possibly more. Removing the top of a 5 cyl isn't the problem, so long as you are careful about removing the glued down cam cover. Mark the cams so that you know which is the exhaust and which is the intake. Rent/buy a good quality cam locking tool, it will also come with cam cover hold down tool.

Very seldom will the head or valve cover need milling, just a new gasket and head bolts.

The intake manifold is relatively easy, the exhaust manifold can be a handful due to the rusted bolts and the connection to the turbo.

A good shop can charge 8+ hours, and then you need to include head/valve refurbishment.

As for crank alignment, no big deal, done once the belt is out of the car. The cams will be aligned with the hold down tools.
