Battery replacement in 03 XC70 V70-XC70 2003

Hi All,

Just sold my '91 240 and purchased a '03 XC70. Jeez, just to change out the battery has all these steps you must follow. I am already regretting getting rid of my 240. Anyway, Volvo recommends a 12 volt 600A/115 minimum reserve battery which has a hose to vent gas. Question is do all batteries release hydrogen gas? Second question is can I replace with a battery (if I don't need the hose) I already have and is a 12 volt 765A/95 Min reserve?
Thanks in advance.

I like the part about fitting a 9V battery to the terminals before disconnecting so that the computers still have power.

Your battery is in the rear and 'should' be vented. But this shouldn't be a problem, the gas will not escape unless the engine is running and then there is just a minuscule amount and you are getting flow thru ventilation.

if it fits use it, keep the same polarity.
and double check + to red & - to black (ground)
    DON'T INSTALL BACKWARDS

be careful that the replacement isn't too high.

you don't want battery terminals hitting the hood.

yes batteries release some hydrogen when charging, no big deal.
