Air conditioning cuts out V70-XC70 1998

Good evening, and happy Father's Day!
On my '98 V70 (215K miles), the A/C starts off blowing nice and cold, but often, especially on the hottest days, cuts out after between 5 and 10 minutes. If I turn off the car and wait a few, sometimes that works, and the A/C stays on, but that is not always the case, and sometimes it just stays off. Should I charge the A/C system, even though it's blowing cold at first? Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Probably the compressor clutch getting hot and the gap too wide. It is easy enough to shim the 3 points of the eternal clutch. See bread clip fix.

I used aluminum sheeting that I had on my workbench. Folded it a couple of times, put glue on both sides and shoved it into the clutch plate. I let it dry overnight and all was well again until I sold the 1998 a couple of years later.

Keeping it running is better than buying new

Thanks Klaus,

That video and the following one give two approaches to the same fix. I'm going to try both! Thanks again!
