CEL, "engine system service' displayed, no AC? C70 2007

This morning took wife for a top down drive in the country. No problems. Three hours later upon moving the car I had a CEL, "engine system service needed" type message displayed and no air conditioning. It's 95° today.

Will a CEL appear for AC issues? It's been blowing nice and cold till today. Now just hot air. The AC On button lights but I suspect the compressor isn't engaging. Fuse? After my heat stroke dissipates I'll start looking.

Thanks
Er

Unrelated items. Check the CEL error code. An error code will turn off the cruise control.

If the AC worked great and then suddenly quit working, it could be ice buildup in the evaporator core. There is a thermostat buried in the core, accessable after removing the driver's kick panel. Most early P2 cars had that problem, usually caused by people setting the dash temp to max cold and leaving it there instead of a preferred temp like 74F.

I don't have vida dice yet. Will a regular obdII scanner retrieve the code or is there a way to display in the car? About ice in the core, I'll check tomorrow but we have the temp set for 68-70 and the AC hadn't been turned on till this afternoon when it wss 95F and we left the house. Pray its not the evaporator.

Code P0102. MAF? I bought a scanner and pulled a Freeze Frame of the cel incident. Lots of data, speed, temps, rpm, throttle position and maf reading. Maf % was 0.00 which I assume is the reason for the cel.

          Substitute value:
          Calculated boost pressure
          Calculated air mass
Rear heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) control shut off
          Misfire diagnostic shut off.

          Possible source:
Contact resistance or oxidation in the mass air flow (MAF) connectors
Air leakage in the intake system
          Blocked intake system
Damaged mass air flow (MAF) sensor.

          Fault symptom:
          Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lit
          Poor performance.

Because you get a 0.00 reading on the MAF, check the connector first. Most MAF errors are a result of getting dirty and producing low values, not zero.

Did that with no change. Still 0.0. Ordered new Bosch MAF. In the meantime car is going to shop for A/C failure. Compressor won't engage.

Two more things to take care of; fretted nipple on coolant recovery tank causing leak, and the metal key for the glovebox and door is apparently the wrong one. ?? It won't turn in either lock.

It's these little things that make buying a used car exciting.
