CEL, "engine system service' displayed, no AC? C70 2007

This morning took wife for a top down drive in the country. No problems. Three hours later upon moving the car I had a CEL, "engine system service needed" type message displayed and no air conditioning. It's 95° today.

Will a CEL appear for AC issues? It's been blowing nice and cold till today. Now just hot air. The AC On button lights but I suspect the compressor isn't engaging. Fuse? After my heat stroke dissipates I'll start looking.

Thanks
Er

It is conceivable to me that a CEL could disable the AC in today's complex cars to save power and allow you to get to service.

The other day, we heard a buzzing noise in the console of our '08 XC70 - at the next start, I got a message - gearshift needs service - at the next start, the shift interlock did not work!

I guess that these cars know what they are doing!
