2008 3.2 FWD? Opinions? XC90 2008

The search for a used Volvo for our daughter just got interesting. We have an '08 V70 which we love. I've been searching within a 500 mile radius for a similar year, similar mileage S80 or C70 but would have to travel to see / buy any I've earmarked. Until I ran across a local '08 XC90 I saw last night and will drive today. Very clean, Carfax, some Service history and priced right to start negotiation. A plus (for me) is it is front wheel drive so no AWD systems to maintain.

Coming from a 745T, 945T and 855T I don't consider the 3.2 in our V70 slow, it's well suited to the mission. I prefer having similar engines to maintain, which is a mark against the C70.

Opinions?

Thanks,

Erwin

Tried it, it drove well but had a host of minor maintenance issues which turned me off of it. Besides it not having any more room than our '08 V70.

So, is this for you or your daughter? Black is hard to keep cool in the summer and it gets dirty real fast, two of my cars are black.

At 80K miles, you have a while yet for a T belt. Make sure the cargo cover is in the car. At least there are two keys!

Expect a mile or two less per gallon than the V70, the XC90 has a lot of frontal area. But, much better visibility in traffic.

There's a T belt in the 3.2 I6? I thought it was a chain. I'll look for the cargo cover but the windows are so tinted it was hard to see inside yesterday evening, even with the sun still out. It has a few extras like the factory wooden steering wheel, DVD headrests, Rear AC (third row) and yes, it is black on black. I'm ready to pick it over today. I've noticed three brands of tires, possibly no engine splash guard and one rear rotor looks like the pad is only contacting part of it. Tires and brakes right off the bat.

      Thanks,

      Erwin

Correct, T belt only on 5 cyl engines.

Ding them for new tires! And a new caliper. A splash guard is required, hard to find in the junk yards.

It is time for new brake fluid($$) and antifreeze anyway.

Oh, probably too late, but set the heater controls to auto and the temps to 74F on both, before you start the engine. You want to check the air at the vents for velocity and identical cooling.
