I've forgotten much since last t belt change...so I can't remove lower timing belt cover w/o removing bolts retaining the water pump....sounds dumb but....do I need to drain coolant? or will level be below where pump mounts to engine...

thanks to all for helping me save money and increase my wrenching skills

Tom

was hoping to NOT disturb water pump/gasket while removing the two bolts needing removal to take off lower tb cover.....replaced pump at 69k w/first tb change, car has 119k now...

Leave the water pump bolts alone! There are 2 bolts holding a piece of metal guarding the timing belt at the crank, they are below and forward of the crank pulley.
