coill packs and alternator V70-XC70 2003

Hello all, curious here, I'm thinking about replacing all 5 coil packs, 1 is original , 4 replaced years back .. 2.4T 127k

also I have been thinking about my alternator and replacing the Brushes & listen to the bearings.

aside from that .. getting ready to install new Struts ..

any thoughts

My 2000 V70 needed the regulator/brush assembly by 150K mi. I listened to the bearings with a stethoscope first (they were fine), then bought the assembly and replaced it.

I have needed to replace 1 coil pack in the last 40K km. Now I keep a couple pick-and-pull spares in the storage compartment in back, and an ELM327 OBDII code reader in the center console and the Torque app on my phone.

Nice thoughts, but I would buy one coil pack and keep it and a crummy 10mm wrench with the spare tire. The coil pack should have a much longer life than a spark plug, about 100K or longer. The newer the coil pack, the better life it will have.

As to the alternator, you still have at least 50K left before the brushes wear down. Alternator bearings are usually pretty robust, and I would always try to replace the regulator first (contains brushes).

Keeping it running is better than buying new
