Recently my v40 has started to idle very rough and actually vibrates/shakes when at stop signs. If I put it in neutral it seems to stop the shaking, but I can feel the engine still gently shakeing -- more than I would think to expect in such a modern car.

Does anybody have ideas as to where I can start to diagnose or focus on with this problem? Is it possible that the transmission is the cause of the problem? Or is it more likely the motor?

When did your car get new plugs last?

Look at the plugs and ignition parts.

Vacuum leak?

Maybe it's time for a tune-up?

I don't know when I last had my plugs changed. Your ideas seem to be good
ones. I guess I should start with a tune up and spark-plug change first.

Can low transmission fluid also cause these systems I wonder. What does the average trans fluid change cost?
