Never had check engine line, no reason to check odbc 1 codes 850 1995

Lets say my catalytic converter is shot. If check engine light never came on is it my fault because I never checked codes? Car seems to run fine. Original oxygen sensor probably - i did have an offical volvo 30k mile service.

Make sure the CEL is not burned out by turning the key to posII.

If the cat converter is trash, the O2 sensors would both be sending error codes.

It is easy enough to plug the probe from the OBDI lid to port A-2, or any other port to check all of the codes.

      111 on A-2 Yea! Will look for 2nd ox sensor. 850 1995

Maybe 10 years ago Volvo reported that I had a cracked exhaust maniford. Maybe that's covering for clogged cat. It still seems like something is wrong, blowing noise and low power.

A cracked manifold is easy to spot. Cold engine, spray bottle of water or a damp hand. Take off heat shield to expose manifold. Start engine and run to the passenger side. Make hand wet and feel for air leaking. Once the manifold gets too hot, spray a little water on it and watch the steam.
Do NOT pour water on the cast iron.

It is also possible that the flex portion of the exhaust is broken. If it is, you will notice exhaust escaping from there.

Not to doubt a $ealer, but they should have pointed out where the manifold was cracked.

        EDIT:
The rear O2 sensor us covered by a plate under the car. Just behind the cat.
