New S90 to be introduced tomorrow.

Old S90 was RWD. I don't suppose this will be so it's posted here on AWD forum. Youtube video will be at 1230 EST. Don't know what this means for the S80. Also a 2 dr V90 to be introduced as well.

Amazing! No rear seat passengers? Safe? With the legs raised in a semi-prone position? The padded dash for the passenger is replaced by a video screen? Why not design a large RV so the driver can take a shower while traveling at 70 on the Interstate?

I forgot, this is for the commuter that spends 26 minutes going to work. So where is the sink so that the commuter can brush his/her teeth, or the hair dryer?

Volvo's Concept26

Hi Klaus,

I look forward to Saturday mornings so I can watch me some Saturday morning cartoons in my brand new 70,000$ S or V 90.

Where is the vision of that company founded by true and compassionate industry captains:
- Assar Thorvald Nathanael Gabrielsson
- Erik Gustaf Larson

I'll hold my tongue. I rife with bombastic commentary. I drive these three Volvo 240s and always get stares when motoring around the St. Louie, Louie. I feel badly since these people may somehow equate a 1996 850 or a 1995 940 with this bling, bling, bling, bling, bling.

cheers,

Mac Dud.

I have already voiced complaints to Volvo regarding the design of the S40/60/80. They all look the same at 50 feet. Why buy an S80 when it looks like an S40? Is there only one designer in Sweden, and does he work part time? Should not the 'flagship' stand out from the crowd?

I agree, it is nice to have great creature comforts while sitting in a parking lot or I-80 between cities. But functionality first. Safety and reliability a close second. Give me a rear window that I can actually see out of, "A" pillars that aren't 6 inches wide, and larger rearview mirrors that negate the need for side proximity sensors. Backup cameras are nice, but a lower trunk line would help a lot more.

Volvo's Concept26 1997

That's funny. I bought my 1997 S90 in 2000. I had to spend the night in the office once soon afterwards. I went out to the parking lot, started up the car, reclined the seat back as far as I could, turned on the heater set to low for ventilation, and slept until the morning. I had to replace the battery within a few days afterward.

But I would not recommend doing that to anyone else.

New S90 to be introduced tomorrow.

A bunch of years ago, there was a rumor that a V90 was being tested. Turned out to be the Ford Flex!

The S90 gets introduced in the spring. No, I won't buy one. They probably added a few more computers, another 100 fuses, and made it totally un-user friendly for shade tree mechanics. I wonder if the rear seat legroom/headroom will be greater than the S60L.

Why do all these volvo models look the same? The upper end of the product line doesn't need to look the S40, one should be able to spot an S80/90 a half mile away and know what it is - an expensive luxury car, quiet and fast.

New S90 to be introduced tomorrow. 1997

With the new Chevrolet Impala (FWD) and Chevrolet SS (RWD), there's no need to look at Volvo anymore unless one has money to dispose of.

(I am posting in the AWD/FWD section and can't select S90-1997.)

The S 60 is now the bottom of the line. Bling, bling, bling.

One wonders whether Geely will get that V-12 into a Volvo. Very UN-Volvo like.

No longer the true people's car. I guess that'd be Toyota or perhaps Kia.

Ain't VW.

Sorry, I'm being polite. Not my usual bombast.

Hope that helps.

It'll be an AWD - meaning another FWD with, I guess, the Haldex AWD system.

No, unlike Mercedes and BMW, RWD stalwarts at the premium / performance end, RWD died on Volvo in 1998 with the final 1998 Volvo 940 / S & V 90 models.

It's all about luxury and bling with Volvo, now.

Heck, automotive industry reports that Geely wants a high performance / luxury V12 (yes, a V-12 cylinder engine) Volvo sometime in the recent past a few years after the sale by Ford of AB Volvo Cars of Sweden to Geely.

Yet, in these reports, AB Volvo Cars executives somewhat rebuked the notion of something like that such a car is not a Volvo. Would that be a V-12 transversely mounted FWD / AWD? Or, like the older Cadillac cars like the Eldorado with the longitudinal (not transversely mounted) front engine, mounted normally, yet with front wheel drive? I dunno.

No longer the true and genuine people's car. I guess that may be the current S60 base model? I dunno. The base 2016 Volvo S 60 is around 34,xxx$ or so. I guess that is pretty inexpensive for a new, premium model automobile?

Yet I guess Volvo is no where near as expensive as the premium RWD luxury performance BMW and Mercedes models. I dunno.

I do not see a new video for the 'new' S 90.

Here's the Volvo Cars channel on you tube.

https://www.youtube.com/user/VolvoCarsNews/videos

I guess the new video featuring the S 90 is not out.

I did find some S 90 videos on Volvo Cars of Greece here:

https://www.youtube.com/user/VolvoCarsGreece

Also, straight from the Volvo Cars AB website:

https://www.media.volvocars.com/us/en-us

This may be a fine thing, yet I'll wait, and pine for that brand new 1972 Volvo 164 or a 1998 Volvo 940: each with manual transmission and normally aspired (no turbo or super charging). Unless enhanced air induction (charging) helps clean the emissions while improving fuel economy.

I mean, they go the speed limit just fine. Try driving as fast as any of these Volvo cars go on crappy U.S. roads with our crappy, deteriorating national infrastructure, while Wall Street hauls in massive profits.

The more the U.S. climbs into debt, the more Wall Street profits.

Hope that helps.
