Front seat cushion swap 850 1997

I am driving a 1997 850 and I am wondering if I can swap the front seat bottom cushion from passenger to driver side. I think the seat backs are NOT interchangeable because of the airbag placement.
Can it be done without removing the seat from the car ?

Yes. Removing the seat makes the job much easier. The front seats are held in with 4 bolts + 1 bolt for the seat belt.

I have picked many passenger seat bottoms and moved them to the driver's seat.

Seat back skins cannot be moved from side to side.

The skins from 1998 - 2000 S/V70s front seats can also be used. There is a way to install an S/V70 seat into an 850, but it requires a little extra work with the seat belt anchor and wiring.
