Rear End "Thumping' on XC70

I`m writing on behalf of a friend who owns an `04 XC70 but any responses are also relevant to me as I also own an `04.
His car seems to experiencing what he describes as a "thumping" from the rear end when he turns a corner. He seems to think it`s related to his Haldex system & an indie shop has suggested that the issue is a pressure sensor. I`ve dealt with this particular shop in the past & they seem to have a record of mis-diagnosis. I`d like to able to point my friend in the right direction if indeed the issue lies somewhere else.
Btw, he has changed tires this past week & the "thumping" problem remains.
Thanks,
Rich

He also needs to check the center carrier bearing, the rubber mount can be getting weak.

Before getting all bent out of shape, the Haldex system should have the oil drained and filter cleaned/replaced. Since there are no error messages, the Haldex computer board should still be in good shape.

There is a differential, has the diff oil level been checked? Most of us have never changed that oil and not had problems.
