2007 V70 (210K miles) with cracked breather tube V70-XC70 2007

Happy 4th of July to all my fellow brick-boarders! I spent my 4th of July identifying a whining noise inside the engine of my wife's '07 V70. Turns out the breather tube was cracked where it comes out from under the spark-plug cover, and upon further inspection/handling, completely crumbled away in my hands all the way down below the intake manifold. The engine is currently drawing a high vacuum, and I was wondering if I can drive it in this condition until I get that fixed? It seems to drive OK, except at idle where RPM oscillates between 800 and 1100 when engine is hot. Also wondering if I can replace the breather tube without tearing the fuel rail and intake manifold off? What was Volvo thinking when they designed this breather tube (at least they could have used some decent materials that would last a little longer)?

Any help would be appreciated.

Bernie
