looking to buy a 2000 S40 with 170000 miles, any good or bad thing about this model year? Thx S40-V40 2000

Hi, I'm looking at this 2000 model year car. I needs lots of suspension work which I'm not afraid of. It starts and drives well. Is this a good or bad model year for S40? What should I pay attention to? Thx for your time. Erwin

Go to KBB.com and check the value, $1500 would be a lot. In my area, I would look at 2004 and younger for not much more.

There is a 2006 w/191K miles and a 5 cyl for $2995, too much for me: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/cto/5177811676.html

Hi Erwin,

Our daughter has a 2003 S40 which I believe is basically the same. I don't know what all suspension work you are looking at, but at that mileage you will probably soon need to have the cam seals replaced.

The car runs, drives, and handles great. The gas mileage cannot be beat. But the blue book value of the car is nothing. You just need to be comfortable putting more into the car than it is worth.

We recently put in new cam seals, a new steering rack, and swaybar links. I am currently rebuilding the front struts.
