transmission leaking V70-XC70 2000

Transmission started running rough, missing shift points and staying in higher rpm's to long.
went under car noticed it was very wet, put hand to it and it was the color red. Sprayed down the underneath and once the vehicle was cool I checked the transmission fluid. Topped off with about 1 quart.
now need to figure out the leak.
any clues, pictures, links, etc.
is this easy repair work?

Trannies don't typically leak, so you will need to find the source. Checking the fluid level can only be done with the engine at idle. Note the dipstick has markings on both sides, cold and hot levels.
BTW, 5 speed trannies require 3309 type fluid.

Since my initial findings and clean up I'm still leaking. about 1/2 quart in roughly 1800 miles.
I once again went underneath and sprayed everything down to clean it up. Is it likely that I'm leaking from the Driver side axle?

Bob, I notice sometimes when I slightly overfill, by say 1/4 quart, (no way owning up to giving it a whole cup extra) it would leak out obviously a trickle at a time, but I even posted an image on here once about it. I know that it is when I overfill because I did it purposely, by a tiny fraction and checked the results before and after with a heated engine. Do you know how I fixed it? Time. Have it time to leak out a bit and everytime it stops by itself. You say a cup every 3000 kilometers. Keep an eye on it and top off, for now?

It is possible to leak at the axle, but that is rare and only if the axle has been replaced and the seal damaged.

        Also check farther forward.
