Power steering fluid type 850

Just wondering if it makes a difference which power steering fluid is used to top off with. The reservoir is pretty much empty so I can't even tell what colour the stuff that was in there before was. I picked up a bottle of Prestone power steering fluid that says it's for euro cars including Volvo and that it can be mixed with factory and oem fluids.
Anyone have any input on how safe it is to use?

    Your owner's manual specifies ATF, DEXII or Merc. What you have in hand will probably work. Many of us have used synthetic Mobile 1 ATF with good results.
