Definitive Improvement of 1.5 to 2 MPG w/ Synthetic ATF 850 1995

I did not switch to Synthetic for add'l mpg or add'l performance - I switched for longevity of the at and peace of mind.

However, I have gotten both as a bonus !

I drive the heck outta my 850 turbo in Houston traffic and freeways.

No change in driving or routes and have improved the mpg by 1.5 to 2mpg average.

Another added bonus, shifts are crisper and downshift much more responsive.

BTW - dave old boy, it is wise not to express an opinion on matters unless you have some clue as to what you are speaking , eh?

    Nancan,

    That's a bit more than most folks get, but an increase in mpg after change to synthetic ATF isn't unusual--have seen it for the past 15+ years since AMSOIL came out with the first one.

      I am surprised at the MPG improvement as well.

      I know this - my driving habits have not changed - I drive the hell out of my turbo in Houston traffic, each and every day.

      Environment wise- it's getting hotter and I am running my ac more/constantly.

      Perhaps the ATF in combination with the new K&N air filter has helped- I dunno.

      Anyhow- I don't care, I am enjoying the improvements.

    I was able to obtain a .5 to .75 mpg improvment by waxing my car. I have not changed my driving routes or patterns , only the weather has changed.

      I lost 10 lbs....gained a half sec in the 1/4 mile

        I got .01 increase by driving with the radio off and antenna lowered!

          Hey KC, I got all you guys beat! I get 8.331 MPG more by waxing my car with a combination of fluid from my sweat glands and Aloe juice. I dare anyone to top that. All in good fun. You guys (and Ladies) are the greatest.

            Picked up another 3 MPG when I dropped my mother in law in a ditch on the side of the road !

              Nathan, Not bad. Here's what I did to increase my fuel economy: Removed stereo, rear spoiler, side mirrors, wipers on windshield and headlights, removed floor mats, rear door handles, mother-in-law, wife, air conditioning; you guys are instigators. Keep 'em coming.

              P.S. I wish Volvo would consider making a turbo charged diesel 6 cyl 3.0 motor; catalyst equipped, of course - with less plastic materials on the interior. We need to eliminate some of the squeaks and rattles in these cars. Otherwise, they are fine automobiles. I'm just trying to be constructive - with a little humor. Why can't we all just get along.

          I got .2 sec and .35 MPG by driving with only the parking lights on and the interior fan off. Must be less power requirements from the alternator.

          All in good fun ;-)
