Change your tranny fluid V70-XC70 2004

It warmed up enough to change the tranny fluid on Mary's '04 V70 yesterday (33,000 miles since the last change). The old fluid was still red, but pretty dark coming out, but cleared up after about 10 quarts and looked very good at 12. After driving the car Mary said that it shifts much better. +2 brownie points for the mechanic!

The change took under an hour, counting calibrating my jug, finding the hose, cleaning up, etc. It did not involve crawling under the car. Easy.

      What fluid do you use?

      What brand?

You do use the fluid the owner manual indicates?

      Synthetic or mineral?

A rather huge and recurring topic on the RWD half of your brickboard.

      cheers,

Valvoline Max-Life, full synthetic. Claims to meet Volvo specs.

For a manual transmission in a RWD car use what ever it says in the manual. The early M47s have the fill plug too low and need to be overfilled. Early M47s also seem to benefit from a change about every 10,000 miles to keep the swarf from building up. After that, they are not very fussy.
