Bad derivative V70-XC70 2011

I am second owner of a XC60 2011. I have been hearing a LOUD sound coming from the rear end of the car. Sound is at its loudest when going 40 mph.
Brought to volvo dealer and its the derivative? Or the part that is part making the car awd. We found this out 4 months out of warranty.
Question is.... has anyone else had this issue? Never been on this board before so posting without signing up.

The AWD has 3 components: the transfer case, the Haldex box, and the differential. The differential is normally bullet proof, this is what connects the two rear axles and allows independent rotation of the rear wheels. The Haldex system does require an oil change periodically but seldom makes any noise. The transfer case can cause problems, but most of the newer cars, yours included, are reasonably well built.

I also suggest pleading with the service manager and regional Volvo rep to check it again and help with the fix.

I think you mean "differential". I don't have any experience, but I would try talking to Volvo directly, given that you are so close to the end of the warranty period. Trying won't cost you anything...

Good luck!
