Windshield wiper motor or stripped wiper arm? 850 1995

Wife's 855T was parked for two days during heavy sleet. Today she had to go into work so I scraped all the ice off the windshield and got the wipers free of the glass. Also dug out the ice around the arms as well as I could. She loves to use her windshield wipers, and there must have been a smear of water on the windshield as she backed out. The passenger side wiper traveled across it's full arc and jammed against the driver's side wiper that didn't budge. The passenger arm retracted as normal when pushed off the driver's side arm.

I don't recall the linkage arrangement between the two but I suspect that something broke or the splined shaft in the driver's side wiper arm just spun in the arm. I'll take a heat gun to it tonight and get the rest of the ice out of the way to see.

Guesses?

Thanks.

Pull both blades away from the windshield and try again. It is possible that a circlip fell off one of the arms under the cowl. I was never a fan of the soft pot metal at the base of the wiper attachment, cleaning out the metal from the wiper arm might help - use a paper clip.

Wives are obligated to use the wipers and washers as much as they want. It is not their fault when things break!

Thanks Klaus. No blame. Wasn't her fault any more than it was mine when I drove the car regularly and the driver's wiper flew off, arm and all, in a rainstorm. I stand at the ready to repair the next thing, every time.
