remove the instrument cluster without affecting the OBD II readiness? S70

I need to remove the cluster to replace some bulbs. Read all the instuctions online and watched a few youtube videos. Not quite as easy as my 240 and 740s, but still manageable. HOWEVER, all instructions talk about disconnect the battery cable. That's something I REALLY REALLY dread to do. The last time I lost my battery, it was a great ordeal to do the drive cycle in order to get all the emission sensors ready. You can not easily get it done by regular driving, hated that. Any advise? Thank. Erwin

This is a warm weather job, the plastic is more pliable. Depending on what you disconnect, depends on what you remove. If an airbag gets disconnected, the battery must be disconnected. If you leave the airbags in and just lift the dash, no problem leaving the battery connected.

If you just pull up the left side of the dash, taking out the center vent T25s, you may crack the black plastic panel next to the windshield. Not a good thing.

I suggest removing the entire dash pad, leaving the passenger air bag in place and plugged in. That way when you lift the left side of the dash to unclip the instrument pod, nothing gets bent. There is just enough slack in the airbag wire on the passenger side to give you room to lift the left side, just don't yank it!

The 1998 does not have a vacuum line for a boost gauge but it probably has an extra plug for the dash computer. So 3 plugs in the back of the panel.

Thanks for the idea. Sounds like the way to do it. I'll try it in summer then. No hurry now. Erwin
