Tailgate won't lock V70-XC70 2003

Hello all,

I have a '03 V70 with a tailgate that will not lock. The latch works just fine when you open it, but the only way these beasts lock the tailgate is via the central locking system. I can hear the relays clicking when I click the lock or unlock buttons.

I have a British Haynes manual for this car, which tells me the wiring for this beast. There are four wires:

1) grey (from unlock relay, properly gets 12v when unlock is pressed)
2) yellow (is common among the rear central locking bits; I can't find any voltage with this wire)
3) pink (connects to central ECU, gets a wee bit of juice sometimes)
4) brown (ground)

Is this a wiring issue? I'm a bit confused as to what signal tells the thing to lock, rather than unlock. I'm not sure yet if it is the wiring or the lock mechanism, but I'm trying to save myself a trip to the dealer (much $$$ will leave my possession).

Thoughts? Thanks for any tips!

Nate

Tailgate won't lock--SOLVED! V70-XC70 2003

Well if I was a little less stupid at 10pm, I wouldn't have written the previous post. Duh--no voltage EVER at the yellow wire might just indicate something fails. Yup, the yellow wire had broken in two at the tailgate hinge, behind some shrouds. All is fixed, until opening and closing the tailgate breaks it again!

Thanks all,

Nate

Tailgate won't lock--SOLVED! V70-XC70 2003

Hi Nate,

Go here and get the Volvo wiring diagram for your car.

Haynes is not in the same league.

Thanks for the tip! I also have a '99 V70, and that diagram is there, too. Win!
