Rear Brake light on 2003 v70 V70-XC70

My right rear break light(rear passenger side) is not working I replaced the bulb and the fuse looks fine... any suggestion? Someone suggested that I tap a line off the left side and just run a new wire...not thrilled with that suggestion.

This is a new car to me so I am just learning about this models issues.

Check both the new and old bulbs with a multimeter to verify the filament is not broken. If either of the bulbs is good, you might want to clean off any corrosion on the bulb holder.

It is always best to replace the bulb on the 'working' side as well. There can be enough of a voltage difference between the old bulb and the new one to illuminate the bulb failure warning.

You'll need the wiring diagram for your car.

Make sure the new bulb is good.

It can be a busted ground wire on that side, you can tell if you get +12VDC
at the socket and it doesn't light.

The bulb out sensor can be at fault, maybe needing resoldering.

Thanks I am going to try and dig a little deeper this weekend and get this figured out ... very frustrating and I am sick on top of that. Murphy's law I guess.
