Ignition switch broke yesterday, today the glove box. 850

And the torx 15 screwdriver that i needed to fix the ignition switch was in the glove box. After an hour I gave up and found I had some torx bits.

And then a month ago the door jamb cracked.

Only 115K miles original owner.

Look at the lock on one of your other cars.

I marked the spot to drill on all three of our 850s - that plan worked! I never broke a glove box lock.

Have you tried pushing in on the door as you try to open it?

Have you seen the procedure to remove the grill from the outside?

Turning all the clips in the right direction makes the job easier.

I keep a folding torx tool in the center console. Which reminds me, I need to buy a new one, the thing is worn out from trying to get rusty screws off and not knowing if it is a T25 or a T27.

There are 2 methods to open a glove box. One involves duct tape on the vinyl and a hacksaw blade to cut through the bar.
The other method is to knowingly punch a small hole in the vinyl and using a pin to move the latch to the side. Problem is knowing where to put the hole!

Both methods are here in the search. Or you can try Google and let the software spys know that your glovebox is broken.

I used the hacksaw/tape method. It still chewed up the glovebox door a little.
Fortunately, it won't show as it is on the inside edge of the door.
Actually, it doesn't show at all now since I left the door off altogether.

Had intended to repair it, but never got around to it. And at this point it
really doesn't bother me. The glovebox is now a parcel shelf - reminiscent of a 122.
