Egg Smell V70-XC70 1999

Hello all,

Base 99 V70, 278,000 Miles

Occasionally I fill the tank with the engine running. Lately, I notice that while I am filling the engine begins to run rather rough and I can smell a sulpher or rotten egg smell. I think from the exhaust. I recently replaced the ETM and the car seems to run fine but for the odd behavior while filling. Additionally, sometimes when i fill with the engine off, even if I only put in a few gallons, it has difficulty starting. I need to floor it to get it going, then all is fine until the next fill-up.
Any Ideas?

Please turn off the engine when refueling, we like to see your posts here and don't want to be notified of a RIP (you or your car).

Taking off the gas cap with the engine running messes with the EVAP system in the car, it can also draw raw fuel directly into the charcoal cannister. It will also mess up your vacuum system, making the injectors stay open longer and fouling the spark plugs.

Also, when the gas pump nozzle shuts off, don't add more fuel for good measure. That just fills the filler tube with gasoline, forcing the excess to the charcoal cannister and wreaks havoc on the HVAC system.
