Ignition will not recognize key S70 2000

I have a 2000 S70, manual transmission. On occasion the ignition will not recognize the "chip" in the keys. I have been able to fool the ignition switch by changing keys. However, it is getting to the point that this happens to frequently.

I know there is a "fix", but I do not know where the magnet, or key reader is
in the ignition and steering column.

Can anyone help with the part that must be either replaced or cleaned in order to keep this from reoccuring?

Thanx in advance.

Probably the antenna ring just behind the key tumbler on the steering column. Remove the plastic surround from the steering column and you will see the it as that is where the key goes in - it has a wire going to it. Easy replace and not over expensive.

When the key is not recognized, do the idiot lights come on and the engine turns over but will not start...or do you get nothing at all? I am having everything normal but no start and wonder if it is the key coil. I turn the key around and fool around with it and it eventually starts. It does not do it all the time. What are your symptoms?
