Original timing belt? Says Contitech on it. V70-XC70

Wow it has been many years since I've been on this forum. Good to see it is alive and well!

I just bought a 2004 v70 non turbo for my mother with 126,000 miles on it. It came from an insurance company with salvaged title so I don't know the maintenance history on it but it appears and runs as if it's been cared for. Of course with the miles, your mind goes to timing belt so I took the cover off and it revealed a contitech belt in pretty good condition.

I vaguely remember on my 05' xc70 when I did that job if i removed a belt that said Volvo on it, but I can't recall.

Do you guys think I'm working with an already replaced belt? I know the conti is oem but were they stamped contitech from the factory? Or stamped volvo?

Good to see KlausCstill on here! He has helped me a ton in years past.

Thanks you all very much.

Dan

Whoa here, not to be a downer, but at 126 kmiles you don't know if the belt was changed at 60/70 kmiles or 125 kmiles, right? I would change the belt for peace of mind, if you can do it yourself, you are only looking at a couple of hundred bucks. Just my couple of cents worth.

Conti is a replacement belt. For the 49 states, the change interval should have been at least 10K miles ago. Change the belt again in 60K miles from now. I am surprised that there is no sticker on the computer box.

Have fun with your new toy!

Ok very good! I can now concentrate on other issues this car has. It is salvaged title so it has some sloppy body work and a snapped sway bar! How do you snap a sway bar! Luckily it's a bare bones v70 non turbo non awd so not too many components to go wrong. Setting this car up for my mom to commute with. She loves it so far! Almost got her a tin can Toyota Camry, so I'm happy to find this car for only $1850!!

      Thanks again guys

I suspect it has been changed.
I also would have expected "VOLVO" stamped on it if original.
At 126,000 miles on a well-maintained car, it would make sense to me that the belt has been changed already. But when?

Me? I'd change it again for peace of mind.
